Living in these regions has always been on the natures terms, There is no doubt that the beautiful archipelagoes can give you a false sence of this being a "easy living" envirorment. Nothing can be further from the truth.It has always been a extreem way of living, constantly adopting to the nature and it's playfulness with the inhibitants of this paradice.
Warm summers Vs harsh winters.
Most pepole living in the archipelagoes knows that they need to prepair for hard winters and equally dry summers. Even tho the population are surrounded by water, drinking water has always been a issue, the geography shows that 80% of the ground is solid rock which poses problems both in finding water and keeping water lines frost free during the winter periods.Primarely archipellago residents lives in houses in different sizes, many goes back in their families for generations, others have built more modern housing and all the comforts we usually take for granted. Agriculture has along with fishing been the formost outcome and source of food for the archiplagans (to use a newly invented word).
 Not just summer homes !.
Many pepole belive that the archipelagoes are just a summer paradice, this is not the facts, there are actually many pepole living and run different business out amongst the islands. Even though fishing and agriculture no longer plays a major role for sustaning life out there there are many that have picked up new types of work and professions. In the stockholm archipelago there is a large number of pepole comuting to larger citys on a daily bases, as well as working from home has become a new way of working and living in the archipelago.
